Dreams & Nightmares — How Giants Are Born

Par Équipe éditoriale du Wiki de March of Giants · Publié · Dernière mise à jour · 5 min

Alchemy, eggs and the nightmares that leaked in. The March of Giants creation ritual, and what it means for the roster.

Not built. Hatched.

Giants are born from enormous eggs through alchemy. That single detail does more work than any amount of exposition: a factory produces weapons, but an egg produces a being, and a being can refuse.

Every Giant on the roster is therefore a character first and a unit second, which is why the ability kits read like personality traits rather than stat blocks.

The bleed

The ritual was supposed to shape Giants from hope — the hopes, dreams and aspirations of people who wanted the war to end. It did not stay clean.

Fear, doubt, cowardice and nightmares bled into the eggs. So the same process produces beings that represent what people want most and beings that are physical manifestations of what they fear.

| Giant | What they embody | | --- | --- | | Victoria | The dream of victory | | Kragg | The nightmare of strength | | Solace | Faith — and the conversion of the enemy's own soldiers | | Wolfgang | The beast the front line keeps inside | | Ossuary | The dead who never stopped marching |

Why some Giants are contained

Some nightmare Giants are dangerous enough that they need to be contained, even while the factions keep using them as weapons. That tension is the darkest part of the setting, and it is also the design space the roster keeps returning to.

Dream or nightmare — which would you make?

Knowing how Giants are created gives a useful way to predict what comes next. Every future release has to answer one question: what do the soldiers of Archa want, or what do they fear, so much that it would walk onto a battlefield for them?
